Atlantic City Casino Trip: About twenty residents took a bus trip to Atlantic City in August. The cost was $30 per person and each received a lunch ticket and a $20 token to play at the casino. This trip was organized by all 20 participating residents.

Ice Cream Social: In August thirty-five residents gathered in Building I Community Room to cool off and enjoy ice cream sundaes or root beer floats served by management.

Bowling Trip: Residents enjoy Wii Bowling so much at the property, they decided to take a trip to a real bowling alley. They negotiated their own special rates as seniors, and coordinated a time. A dozen carpooled together and enjoyed the morning event.

Labor Day Cookout: In September forty-five residents organized and participated in a cookout for both buildings. Management provided hotdogs, hamburgers, and sides.

Adopt-A-Highway: Five residents gathered and picked up trash on Southampton Street and Montgomery Avenue. They were treated to a continental breakfast, and were provided fruits and drinks. Together with staff, eight bags of trash were retrieved from the ditches and roadside in September.

Annual Flu Shot Clinic: Thirty-eight residents received flu vaccinations from Maxim Health Systems. The vaccines were free to residents with certain insurance/Medicare coverage. As always, residents were pleased that this was provided on-site.

Steak Cookout: Twenty-five residents brought their own steaks to the patio where they were grilled by a resident chef. Residents pooled their resources and purchased baked potatoes and a salad for the event. This coincided with the weekly viewing of the Redskin game, which has become a regular Sunday activity. Get Out the Vote: Residents were provided with paper voter and absentee ballot applications that were placed on our rental counters. Anyone wanting to register online or update their registration were provided assistance by staff.

Halloween Carnival Benefit: Forty residents participated in this much-anticipated event. There were carnival games, food, drinks, and a friendly costume competition. The winner of the best costume received a gift card, and many door prizes were awarded. There was a minimum donation of $5 to attend. Proceeds went to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation to benefit breast cancer research and treatment. Seven residents assisted with set-up and clean-up afterwards

Potomac Woods 12th Annual Luau/Tropical Party:

This year's Luau was a blast once again. Seventy residents showed up in their tropical beach/resort attire and enjoyed the scrumptious tropical hors d’oeuvres, beverages, and festive island-themed decorations. Even on one of the hottest of days of the year, residents still gathered at the Building I patio area in the early evening to listen and dance to music performed by Cultural Academy for Excellence’s (CAFE) steel drum youth orchestra. This was a well-received and exciting addition to the event. Residents absolutely loved the orchestra and requested their favorites to be played. The menu included meatballs, shrimp cocktail, crab dip with crackers, cheese platters, and Hawaiian themed drinks. Some residents and their grandchildren enjoyed the sandy "beach" area manufactured by the maintenance team right beside the patio. Overall, it was another successful Luau!
